I am a What Hifi subscriber new to this forum.

I have a Creative Zen mp3 player which sounds nice with my Sennheiser CX300 MkII headphones.

My question is if I spend around £50 on a new pair of in ear headphones will I notice any improvement

in audio sound? If so what headphones would any of you readers recommend.

It is virtually impossible to try out a pair in advance of buying for health reasons so any advice much

appreciated.Thanks.

What format/bitrate music are you listening to?

Thanks for your reply Clare.

Most of my CD's have been ripped in WMA 128kbps format.

Also downloaded MP3 files in 128 or 256kbps rates.

In which case i'm sorry to say that better headphones would only likely highlight the compressed format you're using, rather than be an upgrade.

I'd strongly urge you save spending on a headphone upgrade until you've gone back and ripped at a higher bitrate (320Kbps+, preferably). That could/should deliver a decent dose of extra detail through your Sennheisers

(And yes, I know it's a drag - but it's a free upgrade

Appreciate what you say.

Can rip tracks at 320kbps but will need much higher capacity mp3 player than the

16gb one I own to get all the tracks I like onto it.

Maybe I should spend money here first and think about headphones later!
