Hi everyone, and happy new year!

Im struggling!...with savings and xmas money ive finally got enough to replace my Samsung 40A557 with a bigger and better model!

Trouble is im stuck!...theres so much choice and so many reviews that my brains fried!

Im looking for people with 46"-50" LCD TV's to give me a honest opinion on what they think in a real world situation

My shortlist is quite long!ha but really the main 3 as far as i can see is

1. Samsung UE46B8000

2. Sony KDL46Z4500

3. Philips 47PFL7404

Any help on offer would be great

Thanks in advance

Well, I compared the other day 40" Sony Z4500 and 40" Samsung 7000 LED and although it was the 7 series Samsung and not the 8 that you mentioned, in terms of detail the Sony was easily better than the Samsung, and the customer I set it up for agreed so I would definitely take a closer look at the Sony. Superb TV.

why a z4500 ? the z5500 is better in every way , apart from sound , and within budget ....

the 47pfl7404 i can understand , as its about £800 less than a 9664 and according to whfi nearly as good ..there are seemingly issues with the 9664 look here , and with most owners being advised to turn off all the processing (which i assume justifies the higher price) , why not just save a load of dough , and get the 7404 , of which there are seemingly no reported problems ..

I'd agree with Maxflinn -- though the Samsung is a very nice TV as well. Audition both side by side (if you can) and see what you think. Also, both the Philips and the Samsung sets you mention look pretty fantastic, which is a nice added bonus!

I'd just hold on. CES 2010 is tomorrow and all the sets for 2010 will be revealed soon.

agree with david keep your current tv and buy a projector and put a 100" image on your screen - 1400 for projector 250 screen and 50 hdmi cable as long as you have a ht amplifier/stereo for sound

matengawhat:that pic was taken with two lights on behind the camera - looks a lot better in the dark!

excuse my ignorance , but how would that stack up picturewise against a kuro ? even at that low price , would it be much better ??

i have a sony 40w2000 1080p tv and to be honest i prefer the size of the projector and find it easier to watch - what i would say is fed with a blu ray image or sky hd the picture is razor sharp - standard def stuff looks better on the smaller screen less blocky

i honestly would not be spending 1700 on a tv! some ppl see rainbows on dlp projectors which is what mine is and i can if i look for them but not enough to put me off - put on a movie or the ps3 and you can't help but be drawn in to it

they suffer from different issues to tvs and they get better the darker the room images really pop in the dark - the projector i have ia actually the budget optoma hd20 at £900 (i paid £800) just reviewed by what hi fi and for the money i can't fault it. yes blacks can be bettered and motion smoother in pricier projectors and sometime i feel it tries to pull out to much detail than sometimes let the image run smootly but not enough to put me off i really think you need to see one they have come on a long way in like the last 5 years especially with hd materiel
