I spent a mind numbing amount of time researching printers as my Canon has died, I shall save you the pain by sharing the fruits of my labour. I wanted something that didn't piss away ink on start up time from unnessesary cleaning cycles, lets me print on black only when the colour carts have run out, sheet feeding scanner and duplex printing.

This HP sips ink rather than quaffing it like my old canon did, and prints stupidly fast. Its also well cheap on Amazon at the mo,

I picked mine up for £86 but its currently up to £87.99. Bargain. I will warn you it is pretty massive though.

Alas, "self replecating" 3D printers are far from self replecating. I do quite fancy one to be honest, some of the kits are well below a grand now.

thanks for this. When I researched home printers (about 10 years ago), I came away disappointed as it's difficult to get something cheap that handles volume. My document tend to range from 150-300 pages; is this likely to keel over and die if it's asked to do that on a regular basis (and can it do it relatively quickly?).

Hp recon it's designed for a 200-1200 per month print load, 200 scans per month too. Three year warranty if you claim on the hp web site. All of Hps stats are ISO compliant, so hopefully they should be relatively honest.

it should bash out 16 pages per second in standard, 20 odd in draft. If that's not enough, the Pro 8600 plus is faster, and it will do duplexed scanning through the sheet feeder. It's prettier too, but I have not seen it below £150.

I have a similar model from HP. Seems to like its drink of ink tho. May depend on useage. I do agree its a minefield. Works well with wireless thru laptop and android.. Inkreddible (spelling??) seem good service for inks..

I have occasional high volume print loads but rarely if ever need to print in colour. I went for a laser. Very quick, decent size, modest price and ridiculously economical compared to ink. I've only changed the toner once in more than two years.
