PZ85 has Intelligent Frame Creation - which divides opinion on these forums - and Panasonic's 24p Real Cinema mode (though the 80 will play 24fps no problem). Both of most relevance to Blu-ray Disc playback; neither a deal-breaker.

Oh, and the PZ85 also has a digital audio output so you can feed its internal tuner into an audio system (which is of no consequence if you're planning on using the set with an external Sky/Virgin/Freesat box).

I'd buy on price, and try to have a look at both. IMO go for the less expensive of the two.

IFC doesnt seem to be have been received too well. Lots of people just switch it off.

Are the extras worth anything to you personally? That's your decision.

The Panasonic web site can do a comparison of both models for you.

The 85 has improved audio over the 80 series. And I think the 85 has a higher spec panel as well. Obviously the choice is yours, but I went for the 42" PZ85 as I normally don't use my surround amp for normal tv viewing (sky). So the upgraded audio was important to me.

[/quote]I think you'll find they both use the same panel. to clear the confusion I ran a comparison on the Panasonic site which you can find here.

Yep my mistake, you are correct Duncan.

I remember a comparison between 2 Panys which I thought was the 2 mentioned. The 85 had a higher spec screen. God knows what it was now though. I have the memory of one of those gold thingies that live in a bowl

I have the 85 42" and it's very very good. Just make sure to set it up properly using the THX optimiser. Oh and turn off IFC and picture overscan if you don't notice any jiggly lines at the edge of the screen.

I've tried playing with the overscan as some programs that wern't in widescreen show the jiggly lines right on the edge of the picture. So at the moment I have this turned on, but if a proper widescreen tv program is shown it changes to "widescreen" mode and goes back to the proper non overscaned picture. If that makes any sense.

This only shows up on some tv programs so have a play and see what you think. The picture quality is better with it turned off though as the screen isn't zoomed in a bit.

EDIT: Try the BBE VIVA virtual surround out, deffinately the best sound mode on the tv. As good as basic stereo but with added surround soundiness.
