hopefully someone can help me .....a long time back i saved my music to an external hard-drive .... after gettign a new pc and installign windows 7 i transfered all my music back onto the new pc ... but since that time i-tunes shows a few of my music albums as doubles , but when you click on them they dont work ..........

if i try to delete them in itunes them come back again as soon as reboot i-tunes ........how do i find the location of them to remove it ? can i modify the itune library in some way ? ive tried delete the library but i lose everything then 🙁 some help would be appreciated 🙂

You could consolidate your itunes library, meaning itunes will find all music on your PC and put it into your itunes folder, leaving the original where it was. File - library - Organise Library - Consolidate Files - OK.

Then go through doubles and delete what does not work. You can make that easier by getting itunes to locate doubles. File - Display Duplicates.

You can then, if you want to get the space back on your PC go to the original files and delete them. They are probably in your Documents - Music.Just make sure you are not deleting the files itunes is using.

If you have found all your music is already there you can tell itunes to find all that music. Edit - Preferences -Advanced - itunes Media Folder Location - Change - OK.

What may have happened was your music on the hard drive was in a bit of a mess, but itunes knew where to locate each file anyway. Now you have moved the mess onto your PC, itunes is having problems finding things again.

Read the following link, it is a good summary of how iTunes works and files your music.

great bloddy advice on teh consolidate ... icant find jack all now in itunes or windwos media player ..........ffs

Consolidate puts all your music files in itunes in Music in your PC. You then make sure itunes is using that file as its source in Edit - Preferences - Advanced - Locate music files. On my laptop it says Citunes Music in the box. Search for that. Whatever file is that box is where itunes will consolidate the libraray to.

Itunes will not put anything into WMP.

Been busy .. not had a chance to look at it yet ... and doesnt help trying to do it after ive had a few beers lol 🙂 i had pulled a few library files out before i posted teh topic .. and cant rememebr wher they go now lol

You don't need to remember where they are, make itunes look for them. You can do the above in reverse as such and set where you want the files to go. Edit - Preferences - Advanced - itunes file location and in that box make the itunes library where you want it to be. Then Consolidate and itunes looks for all appropriate compatible music files and puts them there.
