How to add 5.1 sound to a Sony KDL40Z4500 TV ??

I am very close to buying a Sony KDL40Z4500 TV together with a Sony BDP 550 blu-ray player.

The Sony TV already has pretty good sound, inlcuding its own sub-woofer. But on the other hand it has only 3.1 channels, and I would really like to have 5.1

My question is whether it is possible to use the TV's own built in sound for the 3.1 front channels and just add an amp and a pair of speakers for the 2 extra back channels?

The Sony uses S-Force Front Surround Technology to create a kind of surround from just the 2 front speakers. See HERE

Not sure where the Sub and 3.1 are coming from??

Your best bet will be to buy a proper surround amp.

I think he means that the TV has Centre, Left and Right channels and a Sub, that equals 3.1

I realise this is what he thinks but the TV only has left and right channels plus a woofer of sorts. so I was wondering where he got the idea that it has 3.1 sound??
