How Often Do You Replace Your TV?

Do you replace it every year, 2 years, etc... I am just wondering because I have had my TV for 2 and half years, and I want to replace it, but my wife says it's to soon! Is it though? I would love your opinions 🙂

I've had numerous TV's in the last 5 years but it's because they've all been bargains from work such as -

I paid £47 for a Panasonic 37PX60 and then another £97 for the matching cabinet stand which my parents now have. I've now got a Panasonic 37LZD70 which cost me £397 and I'm still happy with it but I do want to upgrade to something very soon with the latest technology and performance to boot.

I guess if you buy a TV that you're really happy with then there won't be any need to replace that until it either breaks or is too behind the times.

With regard to our Main 50inch full hd screen it will not be replaced, when it does break its going to be Projector time. As for Kitchen/Diner and Bedroom sets same as Dave 75.

I think it also depends on how happy you are with your current tv? Ive had my Panasonic 50pz700 for 2 years now (with still a further 3 yrs warranty on it) & im still more than happy with it to the point were id keep it until it died tbh, so if it was going to last another 10 yrs id be happy, so id agree with your wife on this one as i believe 2yrs is to soon by far, just my opinion.

if you want new because you'll get more toys - sorry, features - then that is a value decision. Would not expect to replace that soon unless there was a quantum leap in the technology since you bought the last one.

Until I see a reason to replace mine (ie quality thats well worth the cost) ill be keeping my pioneer (Id expect to keep it at LEAST another 3 years yet)

I dont understand these people that change it every 2 or 3 years. Whats THAT all about?

2 years is a very long time, I get bored quickly! I bought my Pioneer LX-01 2 months ago, I have already replaced it with my new B&W system!

My Samsung 46" has a faultless picture and don't see any need to replace it at all.
Just coming up to 2 years old now, have it plugged in with a RA Classic Powerkord off a dedicated mains spur.....100% spot on.

Will be keeping it for a long, long time.

Our last TV (Sony) lasted 14 years - just died a few weeks ago.

We have just got another Sony from e-bay - £37 including the glass fronted stand, and we will run it till it dies

I've had 4 TV's over the last 16 years. They have only really been changed as the technology has.

Originally had a 28" 4:3 TV, then switched to a 28" Widescreen once these were cheap enough. Then switched to a 42" Plasma, again once the price and performance was acceptable (prior to HD being such a big thing) and I now have a 37" TV to make use of Full HD etc.

Ditto, If I was happy with the picture when I bought it, why should I change it?

I have just had to replace my TV.
I just needed a Full-HD panel for Blu-Ray as I apparently I was the only one who could perceive judder with my 720p.

The problem was my HD-Ready 720p TV cost me £2,500 3.5 years ago.
Hmm how to convince the wife it was time for a change?

Initial resistance to the idea, as expected, was met with regard to cost and length of ownership of current TV.
Then the eureka moment!

I know I said "we can GIVE the TV to your Dad!"
Deal done TV replaced within 5 days!

I have a Panasonic 42 PV500 Plasma which Ive had for about 4 1/2 years. I use this for watching everyday TV as I have a Panasonic PTAX200E for movies on a 7 foot screen.

The PV 500 is only HD ready but is well (better ?) suited to SD TV broadcasts than a full HD TV and the picture quality remains superb despite it's age

The best thing about this TV is the sound. The design was leading edge when it was introduced in terms of picture and sound - having Onkyo speakers built in

There are very few Flat TVs produced now that sound anywhere near as good this one having very deep bass and clear speech etc(we keep the sound coming out of the TV only for TV viewing as my wife and step son cant cope with setting up the AV system)

The focus for manufacturers now seems to be on producing the cheapest panel and the speakers are just after thoughts, I am sure that I am not alone in wanting good quality sound from my TV and this is one reason why I stay with what I have got. The TV has never developed a fault in all the time I have had it

I am also sure that most of us do not want the manufacturers to replace their current ranges every few months leaving us feeling that what we have just bought is now out of date Most I am sure would be happier knowing that the TV we buy today will have a model lifespan of 2 - 3 years so that we can be happy with what we have bought for longer. Replacing model ranges does not seem to make more money for the manufacturers as they all seem to be losing money or suffering from diminishing profit margins. Surely it would help them to spend less on R and D and stabilise the market by maintaining model ranges for longer and go back to building higher quality items

I'll probably change mine within the next 10 years.

I too, don't understand the need to change a TV. Or a DVD player for that matter.

HiFi, ahem...
