How much breathing space do you give your AVR?

As can be seen from the signature, I use a 'slimline AVR, namely the Marantz NR 1501. Accommodating it in my AV rack is easy due to it's relatively small size and I have never had any overheating issue due to poor ventilation as it is on a shelf with no sides and about 3" headroom (see: http://www.whathifi.com/forum/your-system/my-finished-for-now-system).

I had my AV rack purposely designed for my amp and centre speaker, so if fits with lots of room left.

It is an Optimum AV300 stand.

My rack has four shelves, the amp always goes to the top. I've a new Onkyo TX-NR818 arriving later today and there's no option but to put that on the top shelf. It's a big old lump!

I have the 600(3 leg)...spent a fortune getting different sized rod's when i added the m3i,if you ever require 500mm rods let me know, there yours :)

I liked the idea of having an open back and sides.

I had the 1501 before my present avr for the same reason as the op :)

I am okay at the moment though, I got quite big legs in the first place because my amp and centre speaker is really big! I must have 4 inches to spare with the amp and 2 with the centre speaker. Cheers.

:) , I have now got the full approval of the OH, the fireplace will go, but need a fire still and the current cabinet will go as well.

The living room and dinning room are more or less open plan. I will be seperating the two with some glass pocket doors which will still let the light flood in when closed but will open up the space when needed.

I will then make a rack to house the components which can then move to the other side of the chimney breast (smaller alcove).

This will be a little while yet, current pulling plaster of the hall, stairs and landing.
