I don't think Onkyos have the 'Small/large' setting option.

It was one thing I was looking for on my 875, but I never found it.

I guess it just decides the speaker size from the auto setup.

Indeed: it sets crossover frequencies instead. To make the sub do more of the work, go into the speaker set-up - manual, p70 - and set the left/right/centre/surround crossover frequency to 100Hz, and the 'LPF of LFE' to 120Hz.

There is no 'small' or 'big' with the Onkyo 605. You will need to use the mike and calibrate your speaker settings automatically.

Panasonic 37" Plasma, Onkyo 606 Amp, Kef 1002.5 Speakers, Sony 360 Blu-ray.

On my Onkyo 606 small speakers are set by the auto setup,( crossover frequency ) however if you had large fronts you would set the crossover frequency to full band which means the fronts can handle a lot of bass,so as long as the fronts are not set to full band you cant be far wrong .
