How do I connect a BD35 Blu-ray to a YSP 600 Soundbar? (and then to the TV?)

I'm thinking of getting these two and was anticipating just connecting the Blu-ray to the soundbar with a HDMI cable but was stopped in my tracks by the sales asst saying I couldn't as 'there's no HDMI on the soundbar so you'd probably have to use an optical cable'.

He didn't have a soundbar to show me unfortunately so I couldn't check it at the time. Am I correct in thinking I'd need one HDMI going from the Blu-ray to the Soundbar; one HDMI going from the Soundbar to the TV and one HDMI going from the Blu-ray to the TV and 'Hey Presto' I'm in business. Or have I got this completely wrong?!

Errr, if the soundbar doesn't have an HDMI socket how are you going to do that? Also most Blu-ray players only have one HDMI output. In this instance you'd connect the blu-ray to the TV with HDMI and use an Optical digital cable, as the salesdroid said, to connect the blu-ray to the sounbar. Be aware that you WON'T get HD audio in this instance though, only standard DD/DTS.

Cheers Andrew - I'll be a little more questioning of the asst next time - after all they're likely to be getting £1K+ of my cash on either home cinema or Hi-Fi kit in the near future.

BTW all the auditioning of set ups on the Hi-Fi side got me wondering (psychologist in my day job) whether WHFSV have in the past done any controlled tests on whether people blindfolded can actually pick out the differences between a budget, mid-range and high-end hi-fi set up? I recall somewhere that despite all the ins and outs spoken about wine appreciation, most people can't even distinguish red wine from white when they're blindfolded, let alone anything more subtle. Could the same be true of hi-fi, if people are asked to try and tell which system is playing a track when they're given no clues apart from the sound?

It wouldn't stop us splashing the cash but it would be sobering reading if the results showed no significant difference!

Like anything in the Hifi/AV world try to audition if you can before you purchase. I was fortunate enough to have a demo at my local Sevenoakes of the YSP 1100 and was happy with its performance. I have no room for additional speakers in my Living Room so a Soundbar is a must and the model I purchased works with the Vierra link and has DAB to boot. But only you can decide if the YSP 600 is sufficient for your needs.

Sorry, Andrew, I'm confused (not for the first time today) - I thought the thread was saying that there weren't any HDMI sockets on the YSP-600.
