How compatible are UK (PAL) Flatscreens (Plasma or LCD) with the US (NTSC)

Hello experts,

I wonder if someone could give me a definite answer on this question. To give a little more back ground. I transfered here (UK) from the USA for a few years and I've been wanting to buy a Flatscreen TV for some time now. But since I will one day need to return I would like to keep this set instead of having to buy a new one there (this is if the transfer back is going to be earlier then expected)

Now since all cable or satellite boxes will be the tuner, since this is how it is set up in the US, I don't really care for the tuner in the TV.

What I heard is that the Current (110V 60Hz) will be an issue even though the specs of the TV will say that it is NTSC input compatible.

Is this true? and what does it affect. Is it the Frequency of how the picture is build on the screen? And what else could be an issue?

Thanks in advance. Regards, Graham

I think you are right about the voltage. Most european TV's are designed for 230V @50Hz. The only thing you can do is check with the maker as only they will know how flexible the PSU in the TV is. The statutory plate that describles operating voltage that must be affixed in the EU is unlikely to tell you what you want to know.

I know in the past TVs obtained the clock signal from the mains frequency. If this holds true nowadays, the 60Hz Vs 50Hz would be an important issue.
