Tried to upgrade the sound for my blu ray and sky hd. Went to the shop where I bought my 46" tv and was sold a samsung HT-TZ215 5.1 home cinema kit for £200.  800 watts, DTS etc..

Think the sound does everything i  want it to, really bassy, surround sound.  Still dont know if its the right move though. I have wired it through my tv with an optical cable. Great sound from SKY HD and Blu Ray but it does not say DTS on the front panel of the samsung. It says   PLIILPCM. Tried with the optical cable straight from SKY to cinema kit also from the blu ray player. Still cant get DTS on the display panel. Changed the settings on the menus for my player & sky to 5.1 optical and everything.

Does that mean that i'm not really getting true 5.1 from SKY HD and Blu Ray then.  Is there another solution then?  Was thinking of changing it for the Onkyo HTX-22HD.  Noticed individual outputs at the back of the Sharp BD player for each channel. Asked the sales man about it but he says buying the Samsung would be my best option.

Any ones help would be very much appreciated, thanks.

I'm not exactly sure what's going on, but you need HDMI (for picture) and OPTICAL (for sound) from the Sky+HD box. ÿMake sure your Sky box is set to output Dolby Digital. ÿSome programmes should then give you 5.1 sound. ÿThe Blu-Ray player only needs an HDMI connection. ÿYou will then be able to set-up the player to access uncompressed sound, although this still needs selecting in the sound/language option of each disk. ÿThe disks themselves have a variety of soundtracks (DD, Dolby TrueHD etc) ÿDTS-Master is just one of these sound formats.

Thanks for the advice.

The sales rep at Comet told me that you cannot get 5.1 sound from any source if it does not say DTS on the display panel of the home cinema sound system. I have an HDMI from Sky HD to TV and an optical from TV to Cinema Sound system. Only asked the question as the Blu Ray & Cinema system has DTS badges on them. Also phoned Samsung technical dept. and was told if it does not say DTS displayed on the panel it's only 2 channel sound. ÿSounds great to me but, got me thinking if I have the wrong kit?

Best forget about DTS badges! ÿDTS is just one of the surround formats (amongst other things). ÿTo get surround (5.1) sound from Sky HD, the optical lead needs to go FROM the Sky box TO your home cinema system. ÿMake sure you set up the Sky box as I said previously and away you go!

Do you think I should get an optical switcher for direct optical inputs from my Blu ray player and Sky HD? ÿMaplin sell them for £12.99.

OK - I understand now. ÿYou will be able to listen to surround sound from Sky HD and from your Blu-Ray player via optical cables. ÿAs there is only one input on your Samsung system, you should get a switch box as you suggest.
