Hi. I'm after a new Home Cinema amp with full HD decoding. Not too fussed about upscaling. I'm on a tight budget and have seen both the Onkyo TXSR507 and the Sony STR-DH800 both within my price range. My lounge is about 15' by 16' and it would be linked up with my set of 5.1 Eltax speakers and PS3.

Also wondering which is better for music?

Which do you thought might be the best unit for me?

Thanks!

yes the dh800 is a fantastic product for the money.go for it,But give it a few days to warm up,as most sony amps sound very bright.

I agree. The Sony would be the better amp between the two options.

Many thanks folks! It looks like the general concensous is the Sony, which I was leaning towards a bit more, just heard that Onkyo were a good home cinema brand for receivers.

Does anyone have any good or bad experiences with either of these models to give more insight???

Halle, although i recommened the Sony, (and your right the Onkyo is a great amp for Home Cinema), i've got a Onkyo 605 and a 606, and have found it excellent with what i use them for-BluRay/DVD's....

The Sony is highly recommended on the forums by other members and got a rave review by the team so nothing to worry about....

Also, you could always get a demo before buying

+1 for the Onkyo 606 which is excellent for both Blu-rayDVDs & music.

I can't compare it to the Sony as I haven't heard one, but you won't be disappointed by the Onkyo.

I wasn't!

Bob.

I have an Onkyo 605 and I love it to bits - powerful, articulate sound.
