High contrast LED

If an LED tv (Panasonic) is described as having high contrast does that mean it should have really good deep blacks and bright clean whites if set up correctly as while looking for a new telly I have seen some LED'S advertised as having a high contrast ? Thanks for any info.

Simply put the contrast ratio is the difference between the brightest image a TV can produce against the darkest which is no indication of how bright the whites are or how deep the blacks are, so in a number of ways its rather pointless.
