HiFi amp with AV receiver

I'm looking at setting up my first home cinema system and would like to use my main speakers for both film and music. Everything I read points to the fact that AV receivers are no match for dedicated HiFi amps for music (I've got Exposure pre and post amps, which I'm really happy with). Can anyone tell me, can they be used in combination or both wired into the same speakers?

If not, any recommendations for a musically competent AV receiver to drive a pair of B&W 683s for around £600-800?

Tx.

Nice one, appreciated.

I'd still appreciate any views on the AV amp, I hate to admit it but the Onks are just too darn ugly for me, I was thinking maybe a Marantz SR-5 or 6003 or one of the Pioneers, any thoughts on these manufacturers style of sound?
