Hi, I am just wondering if Hi-Fi Racks are strong enough for holding AV equipment. I ask this because I will be upgrading my home cinema soon and will be wall mounting the TV.

good to hear. now i just need to find one that is suitable, i will need to store:

AV reciever

PlayStation 3

(for future) Stand anlone Blu-Ray player

(for future) Freesat PVR

Nintendo Wii

Center speaker

so i think i will only need 5 shelves if i put the wii with something else, or 4 if i put the Blu-ray player and Freesat box together

You can buy as many as you want. They DO state limits (for safety and suchlike). But trust me, they are SOLID.

Hhhmmm. Which AV amp are you getting? I know that the beefer Onkyos are too heavy for the Atacama hifi racks (which state a max weight of 25kg I think).

Many people disregard the stated limited (I posted a similar thread some time ago) or have work arounds to spread the weigh of the amp on the glass shelves across more of the supporting structure.

I ended up making my own rack in the end.....I really must get that AV Rack cobbling thread updated.

My dads amp is over 32kg and hes used the atacamas with NO problem (yes its over their stated MAX but its what hes used all the same). On top of that (If I remember correctly) you can order tougher glass if thats what your really worried about.

Just so your aware theres a BASE unit (2 shelves joined) THEN you add extra shelves (Singular)

I'm just worried that once you've got enough shelves, the whole unit is gonna be quite high. How high on the wall are you mounting your TV? TVs should be at eye level, too high you're gonna get a sore neck by staring up at it.

Thats what I was thinking actually.
Personally id use a proper av rack and stick the tv on top and if needed some hifi shelves nearby.

Check out hifiracks.co.uk - they make whatever you want. You specify the wood, the height of each shelf, the width/height of the unit. This is especially handy if you wanted to limit the height of the whole unit.

You're gonna want to stick your centre speaker on something else then, and keep the centre speaker under the TV.
