HI-FI Amp to integrate into surround sound

Hi Guys

I currently run my yamaha 763 with the main pre-outs into my cambridge audio 640A amp. But the last few weeks I've been dropping the left channel and think it's a fault with the volume control. (wiggle it a bit it comes back on)

I'm thinking of upgrading it to a better model in the 400-600 price bracket, but unsure what to upgrade it to?? at the moment I have to set the volume to half way and the levels on my yamaha are on the maximum to my cambridge and minimum to the surrounds. the volume thing confuses the missus everytime its turned on so could do with one with a fixed power amp input dedicated for this. also needs more power to be in keeping with the Yamaha.

my speakers are wharfedale 9.1's, but in about 6 months time, I'll want to upgrade these to the next price bracket also,

ANY IDEAS??

Ideally if you could wait, audition and buy the new amp and speakers together?

did think that cat but as always with life if i wait, the car will break down, the boiler will go, something will take my hard earned pennies away from me!! and also this channel dropout is getting worse and getting annoying, so need to do something asap, or listen to music through my av amp, oh the shudders!!!!!
