Hi, newbie owner of old sytem needing some advice on a new amplifier to better drive my speakers s/h or new upto £3000, also would like to hook up my laptop at some point . not very clued up on new tech though. I do like my current dac which has a digital out , not sure what this is for. my current amplifier sounds netral, smooth and dynamic. almost valve like and controlled 100watt, but would like something with a bit more drive and verve. listen to rock, metal, blues, electronica and live recordings especially hopefully some one can help me out thanks, Dale

Hello and welcome to the forum, dalev8.

I'd recommend posting specific topics with your questions as some people only respond when they see a title where they know something about the subject at hand (though some of us are less picky...)

Some ideas:

- Storm Audio V35 / V55 (ex-dem / used)

- Bel Canto C5i

- Musical Fidelity M6i

- Electrcompaniet ECI-3 / PI-2 / ECI-5 Mk11 (ex-dem / used)

- Leema Tucana 11 (ex-dem / used)

You might be best to post your question in the hifi section of the forum, you will probably get more answers their.

thanks for the suggestions

not heard of the storm audio, Ill do some research, I use to own the musical fidelity a3 cr pre/ pow amps which were excellent but wished they had a little bit more slam and punch do you know wether the m6 would be similar in sound to the older cr's. Ive read about the bel canto not sure about the quality of its dac. Dont know wether to keep mine or go this route thanks, Dale

We can ask the mods to move the thread in the proper section, no point in opening a second one since there are already a few of us on top of this one. 🙂

@dalev8,

Storm Audio is a French manufacturer, which offers products with very good price/performance and price/quality ratios (for EU made gear).

Cno already offered a few interesting options to look at. I'm not sure about the DAC, I'd suggest taking it one step at a time, settele on an amp first and deal with the DAC afterwards.

As for shops, EmporiumHiFi has an office/shop in Wales, Audioaffair is not that far away in Birmingham either. Check their online shops, there's plenty to see and to get an idea on what's accessible with your budget.

I don't know your speakers, so I won't venture into particular suggestions. Take your time to search properly, don't rush a purchase.. and, most of all, enjoy! 🙂

Here is a used Storm Audio from one of my local dealers: http://www.kronosav.com/amplifiers/integrated-amplifiers/storm-audio-v55-integrated-amplifier-prices-reviews.html

The Bel Canto is a very versatile Class D amp and has a good DAC. It has a clean detailed sound, and imo doesn't sound clinical.

The M6i is a punchy, powerful and musical amp, but some think it lacks a little bite.....personally I think it would work well with Focal

Storm Audio might give you what you want, as well as Electrocompaniet, which I have heard sounding good with Focal.

Leema Tucana 2 (Highly rated by WHF): http://www.analogueseduction.net/leema-acoustics/LA-TUCEX.html
