Help Needed - Would the Audiolab 8200A amp be a suitable match for my Dynaudio 2/6 ?

Until the release of the 8200A, the Naim Nait 5i was one of the very few (if only) amplifier that I would actually purchase for personal use. Now that the 8200A has come along, there's now two! Any awkward to drive speakers out there, this is the starting point to look at.

I'm very interested in the 8200A as a possible match for my new 8200CD - now playing, Love - Forever Changes.

David, or anyone else - do you have any views on "same manufacturer" speaker/amp vs cdp/amp compatability? I'm looking at an upgrade of a NAD 302 amp and two possibilities amongst many are the 8200A and the Creek Evo 2, which by all accounts ought to be a good match for my Epos Epic 2 speakers. I've read that the 8200A/CD combo might not actually be ideal due to the overall sound being on the bright side... and the Epic are quite revealing with an open midrange. Any thoughts?

Hopefully this isn't too much of a thread hijack since I'm talking about the 8200A but I'd be interested in your views. Obviously a demo will be happening at some point.

8200A and 8200CD combo too bright ? Is this true ? If so, it worries me a little.

i have the dm 2/7s and found they work brilliantly with the yamaha as-500.

these speakers are not aqward to drive, they also work very well with my marantz pm7001.

dynaudio themselves say that the speakers are designed to work well with less powerful amplification.

does anyone here think that dynaudio would make their entry level speakers too difficult for entry level amps to drive?

I should add that this was a single review on a forum, but there's not much to go as far as I've been able to find. In all fairness, one of the things I like about the 8200CD compared to others I demo'd at the same time was the sparkly, dynamic sound so if the amp provides even more of the same that can only be a good thing for my tastes. Besides, the boxes would look nice together and I could use the same remote. All good.

Audience 42's used to be their entry level speaker. Many people had problems with 'average' powered amplifiers (30-40wpc).
Manufacturers will design a speaker the best they can, but many compromises have to be made to achieve certain goals.

the as-500, nad c326bee and marantz pm7003 are just 3 examples of budget amps that would have no problem driving dm 2/6s...

Hi Philpub

I would suggest that you also consider the NAD C356BEE. The C356BEE will easily build on the strengths of your 302 amplifier and will tonally also compliment the 8200CD and Epic 2 speakers

Hi WILLDEHURST

I've not heard the 8200A yet however i have heard the 8200CD with the NAD C356BEE and Dynaudio's DM 2/6 speakers

The C356BEE performs an excellent balancing act by tonally complimenting the qualities of the 8200CD and DM2/6's and also having the quality of power to maintain stability at most playback levels

All the best

Nait 5i. From what I've heard of the Audiolab, doesn't come close, nice inoffensive amp though it is.

Cheers Rick, I was looking at the NAD as well so it's good to hear a recommendation for it. Will have it on the shortlist for demo.

i would say lively and dynamic also over bright. consider the neutralness of Rotel to reign in the 8200 cd or a bassy/neutral amp to smooth out its sharp and detailed lines.

am grateful for the cdq and its filters that offer a smoothing/neutral option

good listening
