Hi smmee,
I think I mistook your response about changing speakers for a response to my first post, sorry
I got the Roksan last year, on an impulse, and after an overly short test. At the time I had an Arcam A65+, and I felt I was lacking power in the bass department. The Roksan solved this, but needed to be cranked right up to get a sensible volume. After a few months, I noticed I was spending less time listening to my music, and when I did some critical listening, I felt the bass didn't sound crisp and controlled. It was there alright, unlike my older system, but the attack and finish of notes merged into each other. I got the 8vs2 on sale or return from Sevenoaks in Bristol (highly recommended), for a prolonged home test, and found that I was spending hours each evening listening to CDs with a grin on my face. The retrieval of detail is amazing, with notes across the frequency range well defined and instrument separation better than I have heard in this pricerange.
My taste includes Blues, Jazz, Opera, Classical, Baroque, Bob Marley, Loudon Wainwright III, Kate Rusby, Pink Floyd, Queen and Scottish Folk Music, so a fairly wide range of styles, each of which tests different aspects of playback, and all sound great.
You obviously need your DVD player for SACD and DVD-A, but you still have a few options to improve CD playback. Within your budget you could get a good integrated (I'm obviously currently cheerleading for Cyrus, but other quality integrated amps exist), and something like a DAC Magic to go with it. The other option would be a dedicated CDP with or without an integrated amp. You have a great set of speakers, and I'm sure with the right combination feeding them, you will get a great 2 channel sound.
