Well not sure I can get the perfect pair on a budget, like to stay under $1000 (what is that in pounds, about 650?). Just got the kit yesterday and it sounds good but i'm running through these big Yamaha AV speakers (NS777) and they just don't quite make it.

I want big punchy bass and clear, tinkly, undistorted highs and can handle volume because I like my music loud (classic rock , mostly).

Heard the kit at the shop yesterday through some mid-priced Definitive speakers - gorgeous sound til the volume went up past half and then the distortion was hideous - figured it was due to not so great speakers being underpowered by the 70W amp but I am a complete novice in this area.

I assume that one of my concerns in matching speakers to the amp is finding a pair that don't require more than 100 watts to drive them. I think the range should be 50-150 watts instead of the usual 100-250, but like I said, I don't know.

By the way, this is my first post so thank you to any veterans that can help this newbie out.

good old second hand Celestion Dittons 66 .... for approx £600 (or less) will do all that

Try some Dali Lektor 2 speakers. They are the perfect speakers for the PM6003 (IMO) so why shouldn't they work just as well with the PM7003 ?

I have a pair of Dali Ikon 1's with a pm6003 and would highly recommend the Dali's. From my research Dali + Marantz is a good combination. For the pm7003 I would imagine the Dali Ikon 2's would be superb.

Most amps are at 100% power ouput at 12 o'clock on the volume dial - that probably explains the distortion.

So the PM6003 works well with Dali Ikon 1 ? I've read the treble can become too bright with the Ikon speakers.

In my office I have a Marantz PM8003, Musical Fidelity KW DAC with Monitor Audio RX2 speakers. Sound is superb, but I would recommend getting a demo of the RX2's. They are (as many people have mentioned before on this forum) unlike the 'bright' MA speakers of the past.

It provides a great, room filling, full sound (with suitable speaker stands of course). Only small problem would be a lack of High frequency bite and overall SPL compared to the rest of the spectrum. Worth consideration in your setup I think.

Im confident they would meet your requirements - and they can go very loud!! Possibly even try the Monitor Audio RX6's (just seen your budget). I would think with the 2 speakers mentioned above, your amplifier would cause distortion before the speakers do

From my experience very well; but of course it comes down to personal preference. I initially looked at the Lektor series because of the many recommendations for the Lektor 2 + pm6003 combination.

After demoing both I much preferred the Ikons. A real step up in resolution/detail from the Lektors. At the time I also considered the B&W685, Focal 705, Focal 706, Qual 11L and Kef iq30. The Ikons did it for me.
