It wasn't obvious to me how much I've been living in the past with the way audio technology has advanced! I'm wanting to upgrade my hi fi system so purchased the whathifi mag and after a series of wows and what the... I realised I may need some help and so eventually ended up here.

So once again hello.

Don't worry, a few of us are still there with you and we're more than happy. (Says me with all my CDs ripped to a computer, but other than that, most of my HiFi pre-dates the new millenium).

Hello there.

If you give us a brief and a budget, we'll be happy to spend your money.

many thanks for your welcomes.

My old hi fi (circa 2002) consists of a NAD C320BEE amp, Sony RCD W100 and a pair of old but functional Hitachi AX46 speakers.

Yes I know -they're ancient, but we're quite happy witht the amp and speakers.

What we want to do is keep the amp and speakers, but dump the Sony cd player. We have a wide range of music from classical through blues to heavy metal (esp Black Sabbath). We want to create a compilation of all our musical tastes, from our own cds and buying off the net to create a biggish library saved to memory sticks etc, and put them into genre of music such as classical, blues etc or by artists and be able to either play through the existing amp and speakers in its present room - or run something like an ipod and wireless speaker in a different room or even outside.

Can we do this with what we got, or do you have any suggestions on how to do this - or do we chuck out the equipment that god used to play with when he was a lad and start afresh?
