headphones/TV

I have a Samsung smart TV UE40H6400 and have recently bought a pair of wireless headphone so that I can listen to the TV at a louder volume than my wife. The problem is, the headphones cut out the sound on the TV. Would be grateful if anyone can advise if this can be overcome.

As you can see I have a predecessor of your tv, the Samsung 40D6500.
