Hi all,

Being someone suddenly seriously interested in headphones and wanting a software project to do for practise, I've put together a website for finding good prices for headphones in the UK.

If anyone would be kind enough to take 2 minutes of their time and give me some advice, I'd appreciate it. I'd most like to know which headphone brands and retailers you'd most like to see added and any features that you'd find useful. I'm spending a little time improving it every day.

Please take a minute to look at my site, any feedback would be much appreciated:

http://www.headphonepricecheck.co.uk/

Thanks,

Matt

Had a quick look and checked Bose QC15. I see it is available cheaper on Hi Spec, £234.95, including postage. I bought them from Amazon earlier this year for £229.99 - not a special offer. The price of these seem to yo-yo in Airport outlets, from about £350 upwards. The trouble with buying headphones at the moment is that they have become designer product, the look and label more important for most buyers that the sound quality. Lots of manufacturers are joining the bandwagon.

Matt, can I remind you of the House Rules:

11. The site must not be used to solicit business of any kind – this includes any information in signatures and biographies, and specifically prohibits trade users from linking within forum posts or their signature to their websites, special offers, etc.

Can you clarify if you are a member of the trade please.

Hi Andy, I'm not linked in any way to the trade.

Andrew17321 - what you describe is precisely why I think this website might be useful to people. I didn't know of HiSpek - I've added them and you'll see that it now says that they're the cheapest for Bose across their whole range.

You are missing several manufacturers such as ultimate ears, house of Marley etc.

Are you making money or is it just a project? I suspect the latter, given that you added a website at v short notice.

It might also be a nice idea to have say the top three available sites when you click through to the product, some people are willing to pay a little more to use particular retailers for whatever reason.

I hope you're not linked to the Ribena trade!

Very good, I just hope you have time to keep up with all the new products, as well as assimilating the current ones etc. It will be a full time job!

Matt - can you confirm if you make (or intend to make) any income whatsoever from this? (ie. trade). House rules etc.

This is just an evening project for me. There are no affiliate links or adverts or cookies or anything.

I'd not even thought about making money from it. If you want me to promise on my mum's life that I'll never put an advert on it, I can't, but I am just looking for the warm feeling of someone saying they think it's cool.

So, please, send any bright suggestions my way.

Ooooh, that's a very fine line you mention there. For instance, ATC wars.....

Nice idea ribenaisgood!

I like that you have a section for DACs, I could make a bunch of suggestions there and for headphones, but I don't want to fill up this post, so can we find your email address somewhere?

A separate section for 'over-ear' would be useful. Also you could split 'DAC' into sub-groups - DACs (DAC only), headphone amps and combined (DAC/head amps). Plus perhaps phone DACs too, although there arne't many of those. Now I've said that though what about portable players with high quality DACs/head amps built in... Am I going too far? :p

It might be nice to see a list of which websites are being checked. An option to include postage prices could be cool too.

Your Beyerdynamic section is a bit light, but I have to give you extra points for featuring my current favourite - the under-hyped SoundMAGIC (the HP100). It would also be nice to see more manufacturers like: Philips, GermanMAESTRO, Koss, Ultimate Ears (Logitech), Fostex, PSB, Pioneer, Phiaton, Superlux, V-Moda, Ultrasone, JVC, Panasonic. What about the more high-end stuff? - Audeze, Stax, Hifiman - I guess if you can afford those you don't care too much about bargains :p.

quadpatch,

Wonderfuk stuff! Those ideas are exactly the sort of thing I'm looking for, Please feel free to dump your whole brain worth of suggestions here:

headphonepricecheck@outlook.com

and I'll see what I can do. Certainly, any models you are particularly interested in can be added easily for you.

Also, I'm personally interested in portable players with good DACs/head amps built in... Could you give me examples of some reasonable ones so I can read up please?

Thanks,

Matt

Ha! That was a cool slip of the keys :)

Email sent. As for DAPs with high end DACs and headphone amps there are these: Hifiman HM-801, Colorfly C4, iBasso DX100, but then you say reasonable, if you mean reasonably priced then damn, take those three off your list. There is the Colorfly C3 which is £150 on Advanced MP3 Players (or £70 from HK eBay). It's only got 8Gb of internal memory but it does have a micro SD expansion slot. Alternatively you could wait for the new Fiio x3, but F-E-C-K knows (don't edit non-swear words please!!!!) when that's coming out - hopefully soon.

If anyone is interested in USB DAC/amps here is a list I made earlier.

Nice work! Just what I've been looking for.

Would be great to see Etymotics and Westones in the IEMs (i'm looking at getting a pair of Westone 4s or Etymotic ER4-PTs at the mo).

Also I recently got a pair of Beyerdynamic DT1350s from Juno records for £219.50 - a little bit cheaper than the price you have and I can vouch for the service.

You've also overlooked One Direction's series of branded headphones :wall:

Hi Andrew,

I didn't see your post until last night because I didn't see that this forum topic had a second page...

I added Juno Records this morning - I'd never heard of them - thanks! - and sure enough they are showing as the best price for the DT1350's.

I'll look into adding the Etymotics and Westones for you.

Thanks Matt. I was in the US recently and picked up some Westone 4Rs a lot cheaper than over here - very happy with them
