Hi,

If you intend to occasionally listen to music using headphones should you avoid amps such as the Naim Nait XS ( http://whathifi.com/Review/Naim-Nait-XS/Specs/ ) that do not contain a dedicated headphone out?

What are the options for upgrading to enable headphone use with such an amp?

Thanks for the advice

One more question...
I own £100 BOSE around-ear headphones.

Should I expect much of a difference when using these to listen to lossless music through dacMagic -> Naim XS Amp -> headphone amp
as opposed to plugging them straight into an iPod?

If there is no headphone out then the best solution would be a separate headphone amp providing your amp has tape out or pre out sockets. Prices start at about 60 and go up from there. I have read good things about Little Dot from China (available on Ebay from seller davidzhezhe (I think that spelling is right)) Although I havent tried them myself.

In answer to your second question.....probably yes.....I would suspect that they would sound better providing you have a half decent headphone amp.

I wouldn`t worry too much about buying an amp which doesn`t contain a dedicated headphone out. There`s a vast array of headphone amps available to suit all budgets. If you get a portable one you may well find other uses for it such as using with a laptop either at home or on the move.
