Hi, wonder if anyone can help me with question about headphone amps.

I own a Cyrus CD 6se, Cyrus ACA7 pre amp (with headphone socket) 2x Cyrus power amps running with 2x Cyrus PSX-R's.

With B+W CDM1 NT speakers.

My question is...... I use a pair of Grado SR80 headphones thru the headphone socket on the pre amp..... But would i notice any difference in sound quality, if i was to buy a fairly cheap headphone amp ? Say a project headbox mk 11 .... and if it would be beter, how would i connect it, bearing in mind i alsolisten to Sky HD and blue rays thru my stereo system.

Any help appreciated.

Headphone amps usually use the tape record outputs on either a pre, power or integrated amp, which is then connected via phono cables to the headphone amp's line out. The tape outputs are active all of the time to allow recording of any signal going through the amp, so the headphone amp in effect hijacks that signal. So it would include Sky etc.

A stand alone headphone amp is generally better than the add on in an amp. But as always, try before you buy if you can.
