Hi guys, i'm using an Ion Obelisk 100 amp and have just bought myself some Grado SR-60's.  Just found out that the mute doesn't work on the Ion so i'm thinking about headphone amps.  I have a budget of around £100 and have been looking at the Pro-ject Head Box Mk ii and 2nd hand SE amps.  These just connect to the tape loop on the amp right?  (sorry for sounding like a divvy!) Anyone got an opinion of either?

Any suggestions to fault find on the mute too?

Cheers,

Neil

Haven't got an opinion as such but I'll be looking around for a can amp myself in a month or so. Only mention this as I'm on a similar budget so I'm also considering the Project but I'm also looking at a Creek OBH-11 for consideration as well so maybe put that one on your list as well (it's around £125).

Thanks Sizzers, I hadn't considered the Creek. will check that out too. ÿ

Hi Ridleski,

if you shop around you can get the Pro-ject Head Box Mk ii for around £80. This amp gets good reviews so you can`t really go wrong for eighty quid. Yes, you can connect to the tape loop on your amp or you can bypass the amp altogether and plug one end of an interconnect into the cd (if a cd player is what you are using!) and the other straight into the headphone amp.

All the best.

Pro-ject Head Box Mk 2 is a good little thing for entry into headphones and low use. Serious use would necessitate a better quality amp IMHO.

the head box mkii is a great starting point - the littledot are even better - i have the mk iii about £175 and its fantastic - easy to upgrade and tubes are readily available

thanks guys, very informative! ÿThe Pro-Ject sounds like the one for me!!
