At the moment my ps3 is connected straight to my tv with hd cable, if i connect them via a hd av receiver will there be any picture loss or improvement?
so it wouldnt say dts hd on the amp, but in theory it will decode it. Is there any difference in sound. Also is dts hd the big leap from dts that people sat it is? thanx

Potentially picture loss. Stick with what you have.

Can I just confirm what you're saying - if you use a A/V amp as a hub for routing HDMI signals to a TV (and sound out to speakers) you can get picture quality loss? (I'm looking to replace my Pioneer VSX-811 with a Sony STR-DA2400ES)[/b]
This is very intriguing for me and I would appreciate some clarifications from the experts. I fully understand the concept of signal loss on copper cables and the effects it has on video / audio quality on analogue transmissions, especially on longer distances.
What I can't figure out is how signal loss on a copper cable affect the picture quality if the transmission is digital? From what I gather, if a cable with some degree of signal attenuation is capable of delivering 1080p + full HD audio without picture artefacts, the image should be identical in quality as the other scenario where the signal is delivered it its best possible way.
Since the term quality covers a whole range of parameters (color, contrast, luminosity etc), what are the elements that suffer most from signal loss on a digital transmission?

It's possible in some systems using switchers and multiple connections for there to be signal drop-outs, sparklies and other artefacts.

Hmm this is very interesting thanks. First time I've seen this mentioned.
