Just looking at the tech specs on here to the denon avr 1910, onkyo 607 & sony da2400es and noticed the denon has one hdmi audio in and the onkyo & sony has 4 hdmi audio in's.

Can someone tell me the difference between hdmi audio in & hdmi video in?

thanks

Some amps / receivers have HDMI inputs, but they will only accept video, not audio (which allows video switching). So this is the reason you have two entries here to let you know if this is the case.

As Andy says though, they've made some mistakes on the Denon - it should have 4 HDMI Audio and Video inputs and only 1 HDMI Audio and Video output.

thanks for your replies.

video switching? as in changing sources?

is it possible to have say a games machine outputting thro hdmi to tv then at the same time listen to some music from say sky/appletv but without the picture as your playing the games machine - or is this what your refering to? id imagine the above is easy to do as sky and apple tv can use the digital optical but what if everything was set up with hdmi's for sound & vision sometime in the future would it be possible to have to sources outputting what you choose?

bit of a novice here

The idea of video switching on AV receivers is, you connect all your sources' video and audio connections into the receiver and you can then just change the input on the receiver to get the correct audio through the speakers and video on the TV (i.e. without altering the TV input). It also allows you to set delays in some instances to ensure audio and video are in sync.

So, in terms of outputting video from games machine and listening to music from Sky / Apple TV, no this isn't really what it's for. You'd be better off in this instance just connecting all the video outputs direct into the TV and only the audio inputs into the receiver and you could then set the sound and video independently of one another

That's big of Andy to 'fess-up to a mistake, but actually the mistake is Denon's. If you check Denon's own AVR1910 specifications on the Denon UK web site you'll see (at the time of this writing) they claim 1 x HMDI input and 4 x HDMI outputs!

Denon really should get someone to check all their specifications there, because a good number of the AVR2310 published specs are similarly misleading, making the AVR2310 sound a lot more enticing that it is in reality! It might even be construed as an offence under the Trades Description Act 1968 (to knowlingly or recklessly make false or misleading statements about goods or services... liable to a fine of £5000)! Maybe one of the ever vigilant staff here at What Hi-fi? could make that call and get Denon to tidy up their act?
