Hi
Yesterday my PS3 died a death and Sony very kindly arranged delivery of a new one this morning. Bearing in mind all I did was unplug the HDMI out of the old PS3 and attach the new one, but do you think I can get it to work!
I have a Panasonic TH- 42PZ85B connected to sky via HDMI 1 and PS3 to HDMI 2 (I have a surround kit, but the sound isn't the issue here.

When I turn the PS3 one (phat one), I get nothing on HDMI 2 (previously TV would switch over automatically). However I no longer see my sky picture on HDMI 1 which meant a half hour phone call with Panasonic. If I unplug HDMI 2 from the back of my TV, then I can view sky, but once HDMI 2 is plugged back in, I just get a blank screen with HDMI 1 logo in the top left hand corner.

I've been onto Sony who told me how to reset everything but to no avail. The green light comes on and my joypads are connected seperately to a charging unit which comes on implying the PS3 is fine.

I haven't changed the set up at all and yesterday everything was fine until the PS3 packed up.

Why would HDMI 2 connected to my PS3 and TV appear to overide anything on HDMI 1.

I'm very confused.

Any help would be gratefully appreciated as both Panasonic and Sony say their kit is fine when something most certainly isn't.

P.S. I'v swapped over the HDMI cables incase it was one of them but they all are working fine.

When u power on the ps3, keep the power button held down for about 5 secs until it beeps again.

The gets the ps3 to reconfigure the video settings.

Could be an HDMI CEC control conflict between the Panasonic and Sony unit. Make sure Viera Link is turned off on the TV and Bravia Sync is off on the Sony.

Possibly a stupid question...

You say you've tried swapping the cables but have you also tried swapping the inputs? So put the PS3 in to HDMI 1?

I've connected the HDMI cable from the back of PS3 into all the HDMI inputs to the tv and nothing happens.I can't access the PS3 other than by component. As its new, I've tried to change everything to HDMI, but it won't let me do this on the screen as its via a AV connection. Other than that, I can't access the PS3 to alter anything

Can u plug in the composite ps3 lead instead?

Then again hold the power button down for 5secs or so until it beeps (thats 2 beeps- one as soon as u press the bower button, and the 2nd beep 5 secs later).

Once this is working, plug the hdmi lead back in, and the reconfigure the ps3 display settings to use the hdmi via custom- not auto

TechMad - I've followed your advice and under composite, the PS3 said it had detected HDMI device and would I like to swap to this which I said yes.

Now I can't access the PS3 via the AV option and still no joy on the HDMI!

Try it again - this time say no - when it says hdmi detected, so u can change the display settings using custom. It sounds like a handshaking issue.

If still no joy can u try on a different tv?

I haven't any other tv's in the house so will need to go and find a willing neighbour. I can't access PS3 under component now on my TV as I said yes when it asked about using HDMI device

Unlug the hdmi, plug the composite back in and hold down the power button again for 5 secs till it beeps.

This should get the picture back with composite.

Choose the restore default settings and then try to configure the video setting to HDMI custom and tick the appropriate video modes, and see if it works.

Also when u change the settings on the ps3 I'd try turing the tv off/on for good measure as well, and then re-select the appropriate input.

Got the PS3 back on again, changed settings, but no good. Used a brand new HDMI and still no good. I just can't understand why my picture on HDMI 1 goes off when HDMI 2 is plugged into TV. I'm at a loss with this!

Cant help u Im afraid.

I would try 2 things to try and pin the problem down to either PS3 or TV.

Firstly try the PS3 on a different tv to prove the ps3's hdmi output is working or not.

Then - forget the ps3 and try pluggin another HDMI device into your hdmi2 and see if that still affects HDMI 1. You may need to borrow a dvd or bd from someone if u dont have 1.

It is possible that the ps3's hdmi ouput could be broken and causing that problem. Ask Sony for another replacement, ur replacement will have come with a 3 month warranty.

Just plugged something else into HDMI 2 and the same problem exists so it looks like thats a TV issue then.

Outside guarantee as well!

Thanks for your help TechMad

I would just try turning off all the viera/qlink stuff as in page 27 and pages 45-49 on the tv instruction manual.

Looks like it was a PS3 issue. Tried it on a neighbours HD TV and it didnt work either with the same set up. Sony replaced it the next day and all working like a dream
