Hey Guys

I was just wondering how "Dolby True HD" sound would compare against regular 5.1 soundtrack is it worth the upgrade? will i have to upgrade my speakes too?

Im currently running a sony str-dg710 and wharfedale Xarus 5000's (F L&R) Dali Ikon 1 (C) Velodyne cht-r10 (Sub) and some kenwood bookshelfs (Sur)

Thanks in advance

IMHO, the improvement in sound quality on Blu-ray discs with HD audio is often more impressive than the jump in picture quality. It's the part of the high-definition experience that frequently gets ignored/overlooked.

Having recently taken the plunge, I totally concur with this.

Once you get used to HD picture and sound quality from Blu-Ray you wont want to watch a DVD again.

U713,

Once you go HD, you won't go back

I was in the same boat and wondered many times if this was only a industry insentive for buyer to renew their equipment and spend more cash.however, once you try you wont go back.even my wife noticed the difference once we hired a normal dvd.Her words were i quote:"geee, what s wrong with this movie, look how rubbish the picture is and the sound is muffled...."

Ithe way i see it is think of it as normal dvd= compressed music, hd/blu ray=uncompressed cd quality sound.if that makes sense.

regards froggy

Ok HD it is thanks for the input guys, looks like i'd better start saving lol. I take it theres no need to update the speakers then? they should keep me going for a while yet i hope.

Thanks again

When you've had HD audio and picture for a while, you get used to it. I recently put a DVD copy of Armageddon in by BDP-S370 with standard DD 5.1 soundtrack and oh dear. You'll certainly appreciate HD codecs when you get it. And just to reiterate what Andy said, the audio quality of BD is definitely overlooked.

I agree the sq is defo the biggest leap over dvd having only watched about 3 blu rays in my puff!! Need to go and pop a dvd for old times sake. Have watched sky hd and the leap in quality to br is significant!!
