Just bought a Sony Blu Ray got home to connect it up only to find that HD Ready doesn't mean HD. There is no HDMI socket on the TV. I can still connect it via the 3 coax cables but this only delivers 1080i not p. Do I have to ditch the TV? It's a Phillips LCD and only 2 years old max. I don't believe it!

Most manufacturers refer to 1080p panels as Full HD and 1080i panels as HD Ready.
The component cables you are using will give you a decent picture, if it were me I would set the BD player to output 720p to get the best picture.

Your Philips probably has a DVI connection also, which you could use with an HDMI to DVI cable, then just run the sound using a seperate cable. The video quality would be no different with DVI or HDMI so you could use that and be assured you're getting the best picture.
