Has anyone stopped using their dedicated Streamer

Hello, has anyone bought a dedicated Streamer and not used it?

For example has anyone went back to using their TV, PS3, AV Reciever or Universal BluRay player to stream music?

I'm finding myself using my PS3 more and more because it is more reliable and Sony Entertainment is very convienant. If the user interface on a my AV Reveiver was better I probably would use a dedicated Streamer at all.

Or has anyone regretted selling their Streamer?

I was using my ATV3 for movies and streaming via Airplay, but with the Naim Unity Lite + NAS, I am no longer using it for Airplay.

Likewise with the AEX - no longer used for Airplay, just as a wireless hub.

Understand if you don't consider either to be dedicated streamers.

Using AirPlay more and more. Just today I have subscibed to another load of podcasts (185 Radio 4 'Bookclub' programmes going back to. 1998 ).

But I suppose you mean a 'proper' streamer with dedicated NAS and hi-res downloads rather than AirPlay streaming. In which case i've never used one.

Think this should be titled: Has anyone stopped using any component?

In which case, yes, I haven't used the CDP for ages for obv reasons - can't be bothered to use tht DVD player for cds. Just lost the appetite for cds in general.

I have a Linn DS. Every piece of equipment I have now can stream music. The Linn has the best user interface but I have to admit the Linn is the least reliable. I was thinking of selling it and buying a Dac and having £2k in my pocket.

So the obvious reason that you don't use your cdp is its a Naim?

No - it's still back in Wiltshire. They said it'll be back on the next couple of days - they said the same last week.

I see, hope this is not going to be another Naim saga.

I use three streamers - my amp, which handles a variety of duties including Spotify and Internet Radio, the ATV3 for movies and music, also the occasional Apple event like the iTunes festival and You Tube. Lastly the PS3 for Music Unlimited off Sony's site and Now TV which I have a subscription for. Oh, there's the Sony TV itself, which is network enabled, but I rarely use it for its streaming services with the other three handling all the relevant duties.

Given up on streaming.

Tried it with Apple Tv2 - kept stalling/buffering.
Tried using airplay - from ipad...kept stalling/buffering.
Tried via Pure radio in bathroom linked to computer downstairs. File incompatibility problems and stalling/buffering.

Unless hard-wired, I really don't know why anyone bothers at all !

Sorry to hear that.......is it hard wired?

Mine is very stable and gives little bother.

Which model is it and how does the sound compare with your alternatives?......what system do you have it in?

My Squeezebox Touch is now on homeplugs but only because I happened to have a port spare. Before that it ran happily for years on WiFi & the two Radios still do. It's a shame that WiFi problems do so mauch harm to the concept of streaming but they are WiFi problems & not streaming problems.

I use the Squeezeboxes daily & have no intention of changing that.

Also use a Linn streamer (Majik DSM) and it's brilliant. Never play cds now although I still buy them before ripping them straight to FLAC. Cds then go away in a big silver box with handles!
Owned a Squeezebox Touch before the Linn so haven't played a cd for about 6 years now (except in the car)

EDITED hope not. The main reason why I haven't mentioned anything about it...

I have a Majik DSM with Kef Ls50's. first in should mention my Arcam Avr400, PS3 and Sony TV always find my AVA RS3 Nas all the time without fail. Sometime when I power on the DSM it doesn't find my network. Sometime it does find my network but Kinsky doesn't find the DSM. The last time undone a software update it took a full day of switching off, unplugging and re connecting my devices for the DSM to find the network.

When it does work it's easily the best.

The Majik DSM + LS50s (imo) sound fantastic together......heard them a lot recently, and bought the LS50s on the back of it (they will be driven by Arcam AVR600)........instability can be a total pain, but don't let your system lose its mojo.

Most of my listening is over the web via iTunes Match with some via my laptop using Spotify over Airfoil. My TV, ATV & BDP will do YouTube.
I hardly ever play CDs on my BDP or stream using iTunes directly. The loss of fidelity using iTunes Match is minimal compared with hardware changes.
A friend has stopped steaming from iTunes over USB in favour of CD from his BDP. Although he originally thought that iTunes sounded far better than WMP (to my surprise) he has gone back to WMP for occasional use. Some people just can't get on with iTunes that's not very good at finding cover art either.
I'm not completely sure what a streamer is, TBH. I would not return to listening to CDs personally.

I have ATV but only for movies. Cyrus streamers take care of the music in the office and front room. When I cant buy a high res files I buy and rip CD's to the NAS. I would never go back to CD's.

Sometimes at work I listen to Apple lossless with a Arcam DAC which sounds good but IMHO the FLAC from the Cyrus are better but to be fair if I play Lossless from the ATV at home it goes to the AVR400 via HDMI then to the Cyrus Pre DAC QX via analogue interconnects where the Cyrus goes directly to the DAC via digital interconnect then the power amps.

Actualy I did! I have a SBT that now I use time to time and only for internet radio, since i've bought my Synology NAS i've been using the DS Audio App in my ipad and I've connected the NAS to Rega DAC through is USB input.

I might add that the SQ of NAS>Rega DAC using USB input is better that SBT>Rega DAC through coax input.

Different circuits in Rega DAC are used to coax/optical and USB.

Yes, my Sonos ZP90, which I bought to temporarily cover my Cyrus CD 6SE while it was being repaired. I always feel like a party-pooper when I talk about Sonos, as it has so many fans on here. It's User Interface is second to none; it's sound quality, to me any way, is disapointing. It's easily outstripped by the (wonderful) Audio Station App in my Synology NAS (study) and my MacBook Air (iTunes + BitPerfect - living room), so I only use it now for radio and occassionaly Spotify. You can pay to get it upgraded, but that puts it in the same price bracket as a Cyrus or Naim streamer.

That's true, and it's the route I've taken (so far). I felt it was worth it because I already had several Sonos zones.

The advantage of this route is that I have only one network/interface, whilst at the same time in my "decent" system I get sound that's equal (I think) to a Cyrus/Naim/Linn streamer.

I should add that not only is the Sonos interface the best I've used (makes Linn and Naim seem clunky), the multi-room networking is outstanding. I've only ever had trouble with it once, and that was caused by my own idiocy, when I absent-mindedly wired my NAS, router and ethernet switch in a triangle with cat-5. Oh how we laughed ...
