They use a flat panel technology instead of cones which lets them reduce the size of the speaker. Some of the Sony's use it too and they're TINY. I've heard some good things about the m-cube's, but I've not actually heard them.

mohawk:just wondered if anybody has any experience of this stuff,a 90mm cube seems a bit too small.

Again, I've not heard them in action but they are supposed to be excellent. However, be reasonable. Don't expect the sort of quality your hifi equipment gives you - or anything like it. To blend into a room and give good solid surround sound, I doubt you could find a better product. If you can get away with larger speakers though - do that instead.

Also, this is a pretty old speaker package now. What HiFi originally gave it 5 stars a few years back but it was then dropped to 4 in a later group test because the competition had bettered it, even though the M-Cubes were at a lower price point that originally.

The subwoofer also does a lot of the lower mid-range work as the sattelites are so small.

They were well regarded in their day and still aren't bad if you're after something stylish and small. The swapable covers are a nice touch.

I have been told that I can run a lead from av amp(onkyo 606) to my Primare pre 30 and then utilize my hi-fi speakers as my front pair.if this is true I would then get 4 of the m-cubes for sides and rear and I have been offered a £400 wharfedale center for £75.I already have a biggish sub so would this lot create reasonable 7.1 surround sound?
I don't expect it to sound like my stereo but it only needs to do movies.
the m-cube is probably the only chance I have of 7.1 re My Wife, she already puts up with a lot.

I've got the M cubes and I love the way they can shake the sofa ( powered by my 606), whilst still blending into the background visually. Yes its not got the depth of a traditional set up, but if you've never owned a traditional set up then you'll be more than happy with the performance. They did drop a star on the WHS&V reviews but regained it when the price was dropped to 800 pounds. (Cheaper now)

As far as mixing them - I wouldn't even try it. The NXT panel cubes are quite distinct in their sound and I'd rather buy 2 further speakers for the 7.1 you desire. They are about 599 pounds for the 5.1 at moment and 89 pounds for each additional speaker. I like mine and the Mrs loves them.
