Hi All,

as a newby just wondering is there any "idiots guide" for setting up home cinema. I have just got the Jamos A102HC S5 speaker packege and the Onkyo SR 607. LG SL 900 .To add to this I have Virgin cable box and Video DVD combi (although later up grading to Blueray player and Freesat.) Of course I have all the manuals but was just thinking are there any basic guides out there?

Thanks in Advance.

Hi John,

thanks for your speedy reply. That was a great help I need to know more basic things too like actually making sure I have the amp set up correctly . Ie making sure I have my other devices pugged in to the amp in the correct order. Like I said it is a Idoits guide or guide for dummies I need to be looking at.LOL

OK, in which case there are plenty of idiots here who can guide you.

I have to do a few things but I'll check back in later to try to give some assistance - perhaps some others will jump in in the meantime...

Out of interest - is the virgin box an HD one or the standard def one?

From my experience, itseems to take a certain kind of mind to be able to figure out connecting AV equipment.

ÿI actually quite enjoy it ;)

I'm no expert but make sure you connect your rear speakers to the surround left/right and not urround back left/right. These are used in a 7.1 set up rather than a 5.1.

Devices. LG SL900 Jamo A10 Freeview box . Onyko SR607

Ok here is my problem...I don't have a clue how to connect any of these devices.
Firstly the back of the Jamo speakers....it has 2 speaker terminals..do these get used ..if so what to? As my understanding so far is all speakers are connected to the amp? The cut off frequency what is the best setting? Level..again what setting? And same for phase? Also the fee view box... the connection on the back are scart 2 of, Audio left, Audio right, Composite video out put, input for cable antenna, optical digital audio output, cable out put,Rf modulator Tv out. Rf modulator Antenna in. Also a JVC VCR/DVD player recorder. Model no DR-MV1S/DR-MV1B. The output/input connection on the back are. 2 Scarts Audio Output Connectors L.R. Component Video Output Connectors. (dvd only) Antenna Input Connectors Digital Audio Output Connectors (Coaxial/Optical -Dvd only) Antenna Output Connector. Like I said earlier I will be upgrading to a Blueray.freesat player soon but as for now would appreciate any help.

Right, well by the looks of it...

The best thing to do is connect your Freeview Box and DVD recorder into the amp via digital (either optical (TOSLINK-TOSLINK) or Coaxial) cables for the audio, and use either composite or component (if available) for the picture. When you upgrade to Blu-ray/FreeSat HD then you can replace each of these with a HDMI cable. Then connect the HDMI out of the amp to your TV. You will then need to configure your inputs so that the amp knows what is coming from where.

As for the speakers, you need to use some speaker cable, and ensure you connect the positive (red) terminals on the speakers to the red terminals on your amp. As noted in this thread, unless you're putting in a 7.1 system or plan to use Pro Logic IIz to its fullest, ignore the "Surr Back Speakers" output and connect your rear speakers to the "Surr speakers" output. Your subwoofer should be connected via a subwoofer cable (phono) to the "pre out subwoofer" port. I don't know if it matters which one.

Hope this is of help. If not, let us know!ÿ
