Hi everyone,

I recently took delivery of a pair of Grado SR60s from a well known online hifi store. They came really soon after I had ordered them (I`ve used the same company on a number of occassions and have always found them to be very reliable). However, upon unpacking the phones from their box, I found both leads to have a really nasty kink in them where they join the splitter. I think this has happened because of the way that the phones were packed at the factory. Anyway, I`ve contacted the supplier to ask whether they will send me a replacement pair: does anyone think I`m being too picky? I don`t know whether the sound quality will be affected, and I`m a bit concerned about whether the longevity of the leads will be affected. The headphones were 80 odd quid, after all. Any comments, either way.

Mine came with the same sort of kink, I think its just the way they decide to pack them. As long as the cable isn't split as a consiquence I shouldn't worry too much. After a bit of use the kinks iron out a bit. I think the odd user has had a problem with cable weekness but this is unlikely to be a major concern with most pairs. If they are offering a replacement pair try and get them to open them up first and check, if the damage sounds the same don't worry about a replacement. Just enjoy their sound and if the condition worsens contact them again.

Hi Daveyjay,

Please be assured, every pair of Grado headphones we've ever sold (many tens of thousands of the little beauties

) have been packed the same way and it doesn't ever seem to have caused a problem.

Yes - my SR60s came with a kink - even my GS1000s did! It's easy to get the kinks out, just straighten out the wire and clamp it onto something to keep it straight and leave it for 24 hours and it'll be perfect (for another month or so!) The only problem with the Grados that I found, was that their foam ear muffs degrade quite rapidly, so after a year, you'll be wanting a new pair.

Yup, mine were the same, and have never really "unkinked" themselves. It's a bit of a pain actually, since the leads tend to "pull together" under my chin, giving an unnerving feeling of being gently throttled.
