Hi all,

My system is a 5th generation ipod, always using apple loseless format and a Cmoy head amp. (Portable Headphone Amplifier CMOY amp Headamp ALPS, PCB) search for this on ebay to see exactly which amp. Obviously I need a nice headphone now. I am planning on buying a Grado SR325i. That headphone has a 5-star rating from whathifi.com but SR125 and SR60 have 5-star ratings too. Considering their prices were all the same, which one would you suggest? The sound quality is the only concern I have at this point. Also, dont offer me other models or brands because here where I live it is easiest to find these only (well, I can actually order anything from ebay or amazon and wait a lifetime so it is much easier to go to the apple store a few blocks away where they sell grados only). And also, I will upgrade the system later with a real CD player from marantz and a nice, real, big amplifier which I may use the same headphone with.

"Considering the prices are all the same"?

I've got SR60's and SR325. The SR60 are a fantastic value set of headphones but the SR325 are something special. I don't want to listen to the GS1000 because I believe I would have to buy them. Get the best Grado's you can afford and be content that you own some of the best headphones in existence.

I would seriously try and hear them first before you buy. Although I haven't heard them myself, the 325i's are considered by a lot of people to be very bright and metallic sounding.

Of course, that may be the way you like it

I recently listened to both the SR60s and 125s and was a little dissapointed with them to be honest. Both sets seemed too light weight and not quite deep or bassy enough, my advice would be to listen to other headphones too. In the end I went with a really nice set of Bose Over-Ear 'phones, they are in Apple stores around the world now, so are easy to try out too

Lightweight not good? I hate feeling like I have a lead weight tied to my head. They may not be the most bass heavy headphones in the world but I think they are very natural. Many headphone manufacturers make their headphones too warm to cover other problem areas, but because the Grado's are brilliant all rounders there is no need to do this.

Hi could not resist. Great little amp, have one. Now I am going to get on my favourite hobbyhourse. Go on the Alessandra headphone web site and get yourself a pair of MS1's,better sounding than the SR60's(have both) or a apair of MS2's(come on Clare when are you going to test any of the Alessandro range).

Must disagree with your take on the Grado's compared with the Bose. The Bose don't even come close in producing any sort of sound that is a match for the Grado's, no matter what equipment is being used, I found the sound goes stright into the ears without it being allowed to circulate and breath, I would also imagine that Bose headphones would not be considered by people looking for a really good headphone, regardless of he price, maybe I am wrong, shall wait on the replys to this thread.

As the final conclusion, does anybody have any objection such as "Grado sucks dont buy them" to me buying my new grado SR325i headphones tomorrow? By the way, thanks for all the answers.

i hi fi:

I had to get rid of my SR80's because they are "Open" - and my wife objected - so I had to go for closed...

I now have Phillips HD 1500 - they are closed and wireless (that's what the wife wanted) the build is poor - the sound is good - but nothing compared to Grado

For me personally I prefer my music with a bit more bass to it. Its the same with some of my hifi music, certain bands (I feel) just need that little bit more bass for that warm and fuzzy feeling :D

The other thing I found was that the Grado 60s kept falling off my head, anyone else find that? or do I have an abnormally small head? :(

Have the 60's, 125's and GS1000's with a Graham Slee Solo headphone amp and dedicated power supply.
The GS1000's are heaven. You need top end kit to make them sing, as they reward a great signal.

The 225's up are the biggest step up, and the RS1's are still amazing. Get them in the US for the same price in $ as £ (you need to go there, as they wont ship).
