I have been thinking of changing my separates for the convenience of an all-in-one system, namely an Arcam Solo. Do you think this would be a sideways move or an improvement in sound quality ? Are there any other All-in-ones I could consider ?

I could try the Solo with my Tannoy R2`s but maybe I could do better with a different pair of compact floorstanders ?

I like anything from classical filmscores, ethereal, electronic, indie pop - a good variety of music. Dislike a bright sounding system - more an open, natural, detailed sound with a tuneful bass.

PS. My room, or should I say bedroom attic measures 5m x 3m. My hi fi is approx in the centre of the 5m length with speakers either side 3m apart. This is the only arrangement I can place it all.

Probably a bit of a sideways move if you ask me. You might try the Marantz M-CR603 and see if you like it a bit better, but I suspect there wouldn't be much in that either.

Keep the Tannoys, they're great.

Yeah, could well be a sideways move, only a dem will confirm this.

FWIW, when I had the A65+ (basically A75 minus 10 watts) they do sound impressive with top quality speakers - not heard the Tannoys - especially PMC GB1s.

Thanks for the replies.
I spent several hours last night searching the web for reviews of other amps, speakers etc.
I suppose the best thing would be to try & get some shop, home demos of the Myryad, which looks very stylish, & the Solo. Perhaps also try a pair of Tannoy Revolution DC6T with all the components.

Yes, a pair of PMC GB1s together with a Naim Uniti would be my top choice.

Interesting...perhaps I could try & get a home demo of the PMC DB1i with my Arcam. I know someone who could lend me some stands. Then a shop demo of the PMC`s & the Uniti to compare.

Yesterday, Saturday I hooked up some Chord Odyssey 2, an auction buy bargain I could not resist. It has improved the sound in all areas, particularly the drums - the snap of the snare & cymbols. Voices have better placement. When adding the foam bungs to the speakers it gives greater depth & a deeper bass. A good change from the Rumour 4

Reading through this thread from the beginning, then ending with your 'couldn't resist' auction buy of a cable I would have assumed that your reason for the original post was an inability to stop swapping and changing stuff rather than 'convenience' as stated. - Perhaps you were just fed up with it and not getting where you want it to be?

I'd say, for people that have that 'problem' (you?) there has never been a better time to make the switch. For relatively little money these micros offer a lot these days and it will certainly put an end to 'auction upgrading'.

If I'd be in the market for a new hifi, I'd certainly consider going that way. It will be enough for the majority of people.
