I brought the first release and i have to say I was very pleased with it better picture, much better sound.

Now the makers are saying it was dreadful and they have re done it.

What do you think?

Did you buy it? Are you going to buy the new one and be hit in the pocket again?

Thanks

Mr Gaz:Refunds please queue here

Is anything like that possible here?

Thanks

Hi Gel

I am just enquiring can you access the BD live features on your blu ray disc ? I seem to be having a problem with my Sony BDPS760 when trying to do so.

Joking apart Gel - for a new improved version to be released so soon, previous disc must have been sub-standard and therefore we should be within our rights to ask for a free replacement.

Anyone with any consumer rights expertise please advise!

Also they are admitting it was not upto standard's.

Yes, no problem when I had my Panasonic DMP-BD35. Worked just fine.

I have to say that this is still a rumor at present I think, but it does seem to have quite a bit of substance and it does leave a bitter taste in my mouth.

That's just the after-taste of the sour plums you just gobbled up!

Satsumas and they were quite tasty.

I think if they said that the original release was sub-standard, you'd have a case for asking for a free replacement. Otherwise, probably not, as they'd just say it's a better version - like when they remaster DVDs, and do 'ultimate' editions (which are sometimes superceded by yet more versions!).

If/when it's re-released, you could always try to get Watchdog on the case!

shouldn't you have said that in the first post...

All still rumours, though it wouldn't surprise me if a 'Special Edition' was in the works (this is one of the biggest-selling movie titles ever on disc, after all). But as mentioned, that's a common money-grabbing tactic practice, not an admission that the 'standard' edition was somehow lacking

EvilWolf:Precisely. The standard blu-ray edition was just fine.

yes , blinding i thought, compared to the dvd the picture and especially the sound ( which was superb on dts on the dvd anyway) were much, much better. loved it, like watching a new film. Bring on private ryan!

Gladiator was released on bluray as part of a 'Sapphire Series' - along with Braveheart and Forrest Gump.

It turned out that the Gladiator transfer was taken from an upscaled DVD rather than a fresh HD master especially for bluray. This caused some 'artefacting' and digital aberrations noticeable at some points with those who had discerning enough gear or those who looked for faults after being notified by others.

The current 2 disc special edition does not appear to be part of this range, although I am not sure. I suspect that the former was quickly removed and perhaps only appeared on the US market whereas our release is the 'corrected' version.
