when i rip my music to flac, i want to use a software to organise it and play it. i used a plugin to make windows media player play flac files, but when i import them they show as UNKNOWN ARTIST.. this is really annoying as i have to type in the name of the artist and album seperatly...

i stream my music to my HTPC using windows media center so its incredibly annoying to have to scroll through pages and pages of songs.

i need a way to

how can i solve this problem?

thanks

I used dbpoweramp to rip to FLAC and J.river for playback. I have a NAS connected to a Sonos (bought the Sonos at the weekend) and use the app for android which shows all the info

What are you using to rip? I used to use EAC to make FLACs for playback in WMP, with some kind of plugin (maybe the kind of thing Another Joe is recommending).

Now, I can't remember the specifics but that obviously didn't work for me long term as I've gone back to using WMP and WMA lossless rips, and MP3 downloads.

Maybe consider getting DBPoweramp (you pay, but it can rip two formats at the same time which can be handy sometimes; I rip everything to WMA and MP3) which will take care of the tagging for you, and using WMA with WMP, or FLAC with Winamp or itunes and Apple Lossless or similar (foobar 2000 et al with FLAC), and maybe MP3Tag (free) to clear up any tagging issues you notice, depending on how pernikity you are about that sort of thing.

If you choose to go down this route, I'm sure there will be a programme out there there that can tr4anscode your FLACs if you do choose another format, but I'll have to leave others to advise.

It's been a while since I tried to plat FLAC files in Windows Media Player, but from memory you need two things: a codec installed so that you can play the files and a Plug in so that windows media player can recognise the tags of the FLAC files. It sounds like you need the later, so I would suggest you try something like WMP Tag Plus.

Sorry, I am struggling to paste a link to it, I presume because I am on my iPad.

Cheers
