Freeview Radio

Pretty much. I only ever had my Denon hooked up to a TV aerial so can't swear it was operating at 100%, but I'd take Freeview (or indeed internet radio through a DAC!) for the sheer breadth of stations, any day.

I have mine connected via optical digital audio output from my Panasonic DVD/HDD box to my Beresford and it sounds superb. (Far better than connected via the Panasonic's RCA phono analogue outputs.)

I have an excellent FM roof aerial but now the Arcam Solo-Mini has gone, no FM Tuner. (Ah well. The difference was only audible on R4 and R3 and even then only on live stuff.) FM choice is pretty dire nowadays and I listen to Freeview and BBC iPlayer mostly. (iPlayer is AAC+ nowadays and sounds pretty good.)

99 percent of the population would probably never dream of using Freeview for radio let alone exploiting the quality by connecting it to their hifi.

Most people who claim not to have any time to listen to music still manage to pack in 5 or 6 hours of TV every evening!

Friends who have come round whilst I am listening to radio have commented on the quality and even asked... "when did they start doing that?" about radio plays and comedies. "In the 1920s" is the correct answer but there is a danger of seeming sarcastic.

One friend in particular sat through a whole play and would not let me turn it off until it had finished. She said it was the most relaxing hour she had had in months but regretted that her family would never 'let' her listen quietly to a radio play at home. The TV has to be on all the time or open rebellion would break out in her house. Possibly divorce!
