does anyone know if the freesat facilities are the same in say the new panasonic tv range and the humax hdr foxsat apart from the fact you can record on the humax

Both the Panasonic and Humax HDR include Freesat HD receivers capable of accessing the full Freesat channel line-up.

thanks for that claire , so there is no real advantage of getting a seperate unit

I would question whether freesat is really worthwhile at all with its incredibly limited HD content. I certainly don't think its worth choosing a TV based on the freesat capability, and by doing so you would be ruling out some of the most capable sets on the market . Buy the best TV you can find and then, if you really must have freesat, add a Humax box (if the set you buy isn't a freesat one).

Unless, of course, you live in an area with poor Freeview reception and want a free-to-air digital alternative - don't forget, Freesat isn't just about HD.

Fair point.

I concour.
Also while you're talking about FreeSat reception, I live in Norway where we are currently experiencing snow blizzards of biblical proportions.
Using a ChannelMaster 1.2 metre dish with a quad LNB, two heads feed my Sky box while the other two go to my Humax FreeSat.
When the weather turns nasty and BBC1 and ITV are unavailable via Sky, I just flip over to FreeSat and they come banging through on maximum signal.
Not sure if that's due to the difference in tuner design or sat feed, but I actually prefer the FreeSat picture quality most of the time.
Some of the SD channels look almost HD in quality.

Well i can recommend the humax hdr the picture quality is stunning, nearly all hd quality to me anyway, better than sky ,i also just bought the pana 46pz81 just because it was a similar price to the pz85, plus if anything happens with the humax i have the pz81 to fall back on.

I agree. My wife can't see the difference between BBC SD & HD through the Humax Foxsat HDR. Not all channels are as good, but certainly much better than Freeview.

I have no need for SKY and am happy to wait for Freesat to improve its HD offering; I've been waiting twenty or thirty years for HD, when it was first featured on 'Tomorrow's World', I can wait a little longer for CH4 and Five...patience is a virture!ª)

Wow it was on tommorows world ! im happy to wait aswell,Cant wait for the big switchover, then hopefully we should get more HD, btw i was flicking through the none freesat and came across a HDchannel called luxetv or just luxe Why cant it be on freesat? saying im not sure what programs are on there but it has to better than IN THE NIGHT GARDEN eh!

Luxe.tv is an FTA channel........therefore can be picked up buy any HD FTA receiver or Freesat STB in non-Freesat mode as that's what non-freesat mode is for basically, it becomes an FTA receiver!

It could be on Freesat if Luxe wanted to pay Freesat for a slot on their EPG!

As for the content....it's one for the ladies i think,i.e beauty and fashion, interior design, holiday's etc and my girlfriend certainly enjoy's watching it!
