Question for Daveh really or anyone. Does anyone have experience with buying a Sky Freesat card for £25 and using their existing Sky HD equipment? I'm thinking in terms of picture quality, choice of content etc. I also assume you cannot get Sky One? Thanks in advance.

Graham,

The PQ will be exactly the same as you get now,and you wont get Sky One.

An FSFS card just gives you access to the handful of FTV (Free to View) channels. FTV channels, are as follows...

Five,Fiver,Five USA,Fiver+1,Five USA+1,Sky 3,Viva, 4HD and a few extra shopping and chat line channels, plus 5 HD when it launches.

Though if you're getting a FSFS card because you're considering cancelling your Sky sub then you don't need one- Your current subscription card will give you access to the FTV channels even after you cancel your subs...

You will also have access to 250-ish FTA (Free to Air) channels, but you dont need any viewing card for those as the are broadcast completely un-encrypted.

Full list of FTA channels is HERE.

Sooner or later though Sky will change the encryption they're using and you'll have to get a new card. They don't do it that often, but they do do it.

They don't do it that often, but they do do it. Well, yes. But seeing as the cards have recently been replaced, GT's good to use his card for another 3-5 years...

Dont forget though, apart from saving a few quid, and giving you access to 4HD and 5HD(when it launches) using a Sky box has the disadvantage of ceasing to be a PVR witthout a subscription.

So no live pause/rewind, recording of programmes or indeed playback of previously recorded programmes, so if you have any stored recordings,i'd get them watched before canceling/if you decide to cancel.
