Best floorstand speaker 1000 pounds max.?

Mainly for classical music and jazz. Also some rock (Pink Floyd, Led Zeppelin, Radiohead, etc.)

Thank you so much

No easy answer to that one as too many variables unknown - room size, possible position of speakers in room, partnering kit, your state of hearing etc.

Not wanting to appear awkward but speakers / sound is a very personal thing and the only way you are going to find the right speaker is to listen to as many as you can, preferably in you own room. Not always easy I know but its the only way.

Are you considering second hand for that price?

I think your best bet is to read through the reviews section and try to audition some of those listed, and don't just limit yourself to the 5 star ones, that can sometimes be a big mistake.

Might I suggest you start off with MA Silver RX6 or B&W 684's as these are happy in most systems.

Personally I would go for standmounts when choosing speakers below £2000 but as i say its all down to personal choice

Budget, kind of sound you like, room size, the music you'll be playing...? I'd go with Alears right up to the point he said only standmounts up to £2000 as there's some terrific floorstanders up to your budget.

Again, more info needed. What amp (and source(s)) are you partnering this with and what size of listening room. Can the speakers be out in the open, i.e. away from the rear and side walls, or will you need to have them cosy up to the rear wall. The RX6 and 685s are great speakers, but without a little more info, difficult to be 100% sure...

ok. the speaker wont be too far from each other. about 3 meters. They will be far from tha wall, rear and side.

I am a musician, so Iïm really critical, altough dont want to spend a lot of money on it.

Right now Im using my blu ray player sony s-370 as a cd player, partnered with a dac magic mk2.

im using now a yamaha s-500 but might change if necessary.

the room size is 40 m2. and i will be sitting 5 meters away from the speakers

thanks

As you're a musician, I'd say give the KEF Q700's a go. They're not very hard to drive, so should be an nice easy load for your AS500.

As mentioned, the RX6's should be tested too, as well as the B&W 684/683. With the CM7 being an outgoing model, you might find a deal on a demo pair - just make sure you hear them with your amp to make sure it controls their bass properly.

Thank you. I had the monitor audio rs6, and really liked them. BUt I always felt it gave better results with the volume loud..I felt with low volume it looses a lot of details

I would like now a speaker I donït have to put it so loud to give me clarity and good detail.

maybe the kefïs are better in this. I would say I prefer now a really clear and detailed and live more than anything else.

I think if you enjoyed the sound of your rs6's then the rx6's would be a nice improvement, due to them having a crisper sound. They should fill out the problem of no detail at lower volumes.

I myself own a pair of rx6's and rs8's and I noticed the exact same thing as you have said, but its not too much of an issue for me because my rs8's are in the cinema room and are only ever turned up! Wheras my rx6's are for the bedroom. I mean you could also consider a 2nd hand pair of gs20's which are fantastic rock and classical speakers, they may go slightly over your budget though.

How did your rs6's sound? Because you've got quite a large room and the fact the speakers aren't sitting near any walls to bounce abit of the sound means they may sound abit soft or small, which would explain the loss of detail at lower volumes.

maybe the gs20 will be nice..i will try to hear them. do they combine well with the yamaha?

Also I heard the yamaha combines well with dynaudio 2/6.

What are your opinions?

So I think I will build the system from the yamaha s-500.

Dynaudio 2/6 will be the best choice in that price range? Mainly for classical music and jazz.

Thanks again

Im having trouble to find them here in Portugal. Are they really great? Did anyone auditioned them? You think they are better for my musical taste than Dynaudio or even other brand?
