Hi ,

I am going to buy my first Stereo system.

I always bought home cinema but I listen more music then watching movies.

My first step is to set a max. budget.

What is a nice budget for someone who buys his first stereo set? So speakers, cd, amp?

Thanx

Ron

What music do you listen to, and what sort of Home Cinema gear have you been using? What do you like about the sound you've been getting and what do you particularly want to improve?

Do you listen at loud levels of more quietly, and do you have a preference for floorstanding or stand-mount speakers?

I listen to rock, metal, pop music.

I listen both loud and quiet, floorstanders, stand-mount is both good.

The speakers wil stand in a living room of 250 square feet and an open kitchen of 70 square feet. The wall were the speakers wil stand is 13 feet wide.

I did use a Onkyo 606 with Kef eggs, in stereo it sounds to thin but with movies it's oke. I already sold the whole package.

First I want to set a max. buget it is much easier if you have a budget in your mind when you visit a hifi store.

thanks

ron

Max budget has got to be your decision. It all depends on how much you value a good sound. I'd probably be aiming for around 1k as a first system. If you give a ballpark figure I'm sure you will get plenty of recommendations on what to audition.

Also what will you be using as a source? do you want to buy a CD player or will you be streaming from you pc?
