Fibre Optic or Coaxial CD Transport to DAC Cable?

I used to have the same cable as you but I was fortunate to pick up some Acoustic Zen MC2 coax cable 2nd hand. Took all the glare out of digital playback that I got with the Chord Prodac and added subtlety and detail you wouldn't believe. I also have optical Chord cable and coax wins convincingly here as well. Digital cables are supposed to make no difference, but I would try a few options and see what works best for you.

There seems to be a huge price hike from the £100 level digital interconnects up to the next level. The best deal I have found so far is a Chord Signature at £185.00 "buy it now" on a certain auction website. The Chord indigo Plus is retailing from £360 and up. That's one heck of an investment for a "try it and see" purchase.

Any recommendations outside the Chord stable, this time specifically for the Cyrus CD-XTSE and DAC-X combo? Something that would, perhaps, deliver a slightly less clinical sound and a more dynamic bass / midrange?

why do you want to spend so much on a coax cable

unless your running massive lengths it probably isnt worth it

georgejack: Coax all the way for me.

Agreed - whichever cable you choose should go all the way from the transport to the DAC.

But I would go for an electrical connection, simply because there are less 'format changes' involved - ie not optical (from disc) to electrical to optical for transmission to electrical again in the DAC.

However, in some circumstances - such as connecting computers to your hi-fi system, where there may be some electrical noise from power supplies, video cards and so on - an optical connection may actually be preferable.

People say much the same about analogue interconnects and speaker cables and racks and floor spikes and mains leads and the effect of the phase of the moon and .......

except for the phase of the moon bit they do indeed say that and theyre probably not far away from the truth especially for digital cables

You should be able to get one for around £100 ish if you play the waiting game, they come on quite frequently.

I went from the ProDac to the Signature and the difference is just amazing! Even though it is only one up in the range, I really can't reommend the Signature enough.

My Clearer Audio Silverline is superb.

I have Cyrus transport to a Tube DAC and I have tried even different grades of coaxial cables and I would recommend a silver coaxial cable if your budget allows. I have tested various designs in a different price range and I can pick up changes in sound especially in a bass frequency.

Any reason you dig up six year old threads? Suggestions at this point in time are pretty irrelevant.

Is there a forum rule re old threads being regurgitated? Lol..whenever one pops up? Someone comes along and moans about it..it may well have been done and dusted at the time of posting? Since then new people have joined this forum and may well be interested in this topic..and of course in the responses...i happen to have a view on this..so I'm guessing it's not irrelevant? I find it quite negative that people feel the need to say why rehash this post or we did that post years ago why bother now? I'm sure like myself there are other forum members who have a interest in old posts inasmuch as they weren't about at the time of the posting! If there a rule? Fair enough! If not? Open knowledge is good thing so some of us can benefit from the varied opinions and wisdom of previous 'old' posts..by moaning about 'not another old post' this open knowledge is being closed off which is shame..moan over.

while some forums have specific rules about necroposting (resurrecting dead threads), most don't. Nevertheless, it's kind of one of those unwritten rules of net etiquette. On the other hand, you'll get the same people complaining about someone starting a new thread when there's another fairly recent one on the same topic. It's a win-win situation.

The usual issue is that the original poster asking for advice will hopefully have resolved the issue years ago. Arguably the thread can still serve as advice for others with similar issues.

Often necroposting can be aggravating because they dig up contentious issues, as I'd argue is the case here. Sometimes it's annoying because they are pushing some agenda and start digging up any thread they can on the subject to spam the forum.

Thanks for the clarification, I can see some people bring up old posts to have a go at someone or to try and sell something, aside from that..i find them beneficial..on the whole.

So, on an unrelated point, looking back over the thread, why do a number of the posters show up as 'anonymous'?

I believe they were users from the forum software before the last one that were no longer active. Inactive usernames weren't carried over or something.

The reason I mentioned it is, if you look at other related threads, the guy is digging them up because he is a spammer trying to promote his companies cables without declaring he is a dealer. Which is against house rules.

Simples!

See 'What digital coax cable cable?' and 'Quad VA-one' thread.
