Feeling Smug

Now I know smugness in others is hardly endearing, but I can't help myself.

I just bought a pair of Quad II forty monoblocks and the matching QC twentyfour preamp. They are about four months old, look new and came with all the boxes etc. Cost me the equivalent of £2288 from a dealer here in Perth (the hot Perth)

Evidently the previous owner gets a job, buys up big on Hi Fi, loses a job and trades in Hi Fi for cash, gets a job....

They sound glorious with the kind of music I love (Classical, Jazz, Folk). So much warmer and three dimensional than my CA 650A without losing out on detail. Drums sound like drums and not a generic thumping sound, strings sound like strings and female vocals sound like heaven.

Most importantly my music loving SWMBO also loves them and has not batted an eyelid at the sight of two glowing furnaces of valvey goodness in our living room.

I am listening to them through my MA RX6s which are standing up well to the ordeal.

Nicely done Sir...

Saves on the heating in 6 months time as well.... obv, not so great now. Could you post 'em across, it's a bit parky here at the moment... 😉

Yes I'm sure you could make toast on the protective wire cage. Going to be 42 C on Sunday so I think I will need either an ice vest or a cold beer or two when sitting down for a listen.

Good, aren't they....

I knew you would be haapy if you got them...

You were right Ray. These amps are no curious anachronism. They are glorious speaker driving machines.

Thanks for your advice and encouragement from the previous thread.

One question....does your preamp come with the phono module installed or is the phono input at line level?

No phono stage yet Ray. Going vinyl is the next project (no pun intended). I like the idea of the QC-24P but I will probably start with a more affordable SS phono amp and and the QC-24P later if I feel the need. I will also see if it is possible for my dealer to get the phono module for my preamp.
