Now I know smugness in others is hardly endearing, but I can't help myself.
I just bought a pair of Quad II forty monoblocks and the matching QC twentyfour preamp. They are about four months old, look new and came with all the boxes etc. Cost me the equivalent of £2288 from a dealer here in Perth (the hot Perth)
Evidently the previous owner gets a job, buys up big on Hi Fi, loses a job and trades in Hi Fi for cash, gets a job....
They sound glorious with the kind of music I love (Classical, Jazz, Folk). So much warmer and three dimensional than my CA 650A without losing out on detail. Drums sound like drums and not a generic thumping sound, strings sound like strings and female vocals sound like heaven.
Most importantly my music loving SWMBO also loves them and has not batted an eyelid at the sight of two glowing furnaces of valvey goodness in our living room.
I am listening to them through my MA RX6s which are standing up well to the ordeal.
