I believe the Beeb decided not to show this seasons F1 circuits in HD. Personally I don't understand it but perhaps I'm just mis-informed.

I am sure there is a cost issue as well as perhaps a logistical one but after winning the bid to take on F1 again (or did no-one else want it?) I would have thought this would be one fantastic showcase for the format. Shame.

Your thoughts ...

This sport definitely needs HD, more so than some I could mention......

I would've bought a HD Sky box for it, but seeing as it's not being broadcast in HD, I don't think I'll bother.

It issuch a shame that the whole world is driven by money. Wouldn't it be nice if people just gave the best image available? I was looking forwards to that in HD as a lowly Virgin V+ owner

Lost Angeles:Bernie's not wasting his money on HD he's making sure F1 races on tracks where the first 6 are not 26 seconds apart after 6 laps to bore us all to death.

Think exotic locations, girls and colours darling ...

I think it's already shown in HD in some countries, in which case it's obviously shot in HD, why can't we have it broadcast in HD.

And they would fit into the same size clothes. Now there's a thought.

Clare Newsome:
We've already discussed this many a-time DM (and ran a story confirming it in first week in January) - it's not BBC's decision, but Bernie Eccelestone's. And indeed, it's a great shame.

You sure about that? I can't believe the poison dwarfs "not letting" the beeb access the HD feed given the astronomical sum they paid for F1. I thought it was just the beeb being useless.

I heard the beeb is considering broadcasting F1 in HD later in the year.

It's v.complicated, apparently, with a lot of speculation and few concrete facts (like a lot in the world of F1!)

All cameras used at F1 circuits to film race - on-car and on/beside/above track are operated by Bernie's FOM group. Some are HD, others are not. Broadcasters then pay for feed, which is provided by satellite uplink.

This link, it seems, has not been upgraded by Bernie to take HD yet - I hear he's waiting for enough HD-capable broadcasters to pay rights before he does so.

BBC has gone on record (see the story I link to in my first post in this thread) to say it wants to cover the race in HD - its own cameras (for interviews, studio time etc) may very well be in HD, though if the coverage isn't, there seems little point

I understand what your saying clare but the bbc broadcast rubbish stuff in HD like 'in the night garden' plus loads of other rubbish stuff that doesnt make any difference to a 5yr old, this is our tv liscence money that goes up every year, and as for bernie ecclescake hes a waist of space, when martin brundle does the grid walk and speaks to him he never seems interested in F1 to me, i cant stand the bloke.I dont believe its that complicated if they wanted to do it they would its all about money im surprised noones used the credit crunch excuse yet.

There's definately a HD uplink, several european countries and US, oz, japan and more all watch it in HD. In fact some of the countries watching in HD actually buy their feed from the UK with allen/brundle commentating... the aussies say they know when we have a commercial break cos they run through the race order then pause before carrying on...!
