When I select the dts hd ma track on blu ray, my receiver (marantz sr5005) set in auto shows multichannel in. Why not dts hd ma?

you probably have it set to PCM instead of bitstream - change this to bitstream as suggested by the poster up above and you should be sorted

Ah, the player is decoding dts but still sends multichannel digital pcm out via hdmi (as opposed to analog)? I did not realise that was a possibility.

I thought if player decodes it has to be analog out.

I checked the settings for audio output on the bluray player. There are two options - pcm or auto. It is set to auto. So why the receiver shows multichannel in and not dts hd ma when I set the disc audio menu to to dts hd ma?

Agreed. Looking at the manual, make sure 'BD audio mix' is turned off. Also try setting 'Dolby digital' to Dolby digital, DTS to DTS etc. Otherwise it is probably a setting on the AVR.

Followed the advice here and resolved a similar issue. Just wanted to say thank you for sharing your experience.
